In cooperation with artist house Mousonturm in Frankfurt, Salihara in Jakarta and Studio Plesungan in Solo, German-based and Indonesian artist duos were brought together in different working phases. The exchange, which took place in Indonesia and Germany, was completely open and could be interpreted freely by the participating artists Ioannis Mandafounis & Agus Margiyanto, Fitri Setyaningsih & Nicola Mascia, Josh Elliott Johnson & Elia Nurvista.
The resulting works were presented in an innovative format: they broke habits, brought the audience into action and dissolved the usual barriers between artists and audience. The works were first presented as part of Indonesia Lab prior to the Frankfurt Book Fair, followed by performnaces during the “German Season” in Jakarta and Surakarta.
Choreographers’LAB was a joint project by Künstlerhaus Mousonturm and Goethe-Institut Indonesien as part of Indonesia LAB, funded by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes. With the kind support of deSingel, Antwerpen, Studio Plesungan, Surakarta and Komunitas Salihara, Jakarta as well as the National Committee Indonesia – Guest of Honour Frankfurt Book Fair 2015 – Ministry of Education and Culture.
