The German graphic novel “Der Boxer” portrays the moving story of Hertzko Haft, a concentration camp inmate in Auschwitz during the 1940s. The true story offers readers a glimpse into the dark reality, the bitterness and the torment that Haft had to endure during his imprisonment. At the same, his story is also one of strength, courage, and will-power that are needed to survive in a concentration camp. The book’s author and illustrator, Reinhard Kleist, has succeeded in capturing Haft’s disturbing memoirs in a skillfully executed and expressive graphic novel that easily mesmerizes its readers.
"Der Boxer" received several prestigious European literary awards and has been translated into numerous languages. Since October 2015, "Der Boxer" is also available in Indonesian language under the title “Sang Petinju”.
